The Meaning of Entertaiment

Entertainment is a vast and varied field, with many kinds of entertainment and ways to amuse ourselves. It can be difficult to define, as it often consists of activities that may be regarded as work by one group or individual and as pure fun by another. In addition, what entertains one person or group of people may be repulsive or offensive to another.

What is more, entertainment often touches on subjects that the brain was shaped to respond to deeply, such as social backstabbing and murders. Hence, the meaning of entertaiment has transformed a great deal over the centuries and across different media. For example, Shakespeare’s plays were popular entertainment in his day, but are now considered high art.
