Entertainment is anything that can be consumed for pleasure. It encompasses everything from music, movies, books, and theater to sports, video games, and food. It has a vast potential for creative remix, which means that themes and images from entertainment can easily cross over different media. According to Bates and Ferri (2010), entertainment can be defined by six elements: it is objectively understood, includes communication between text and audience, comes from an external stimulus, offers pleasure, requires an audience, and occurs in a passive form.

The word “entertainment” is derived from the Latin inter-tenere, meaning to hold inside. The prefix inter means “inside,” while the suffix tenere derives from the Indo-European root ten, which means to stretch or extend.
